What’s Up, Green Day?

September 30 might still be a few days away but that does not mean you cannot get your daily dose of Green Day. Formed in 1987 as part of the punk rock culture, Green Day is now more identified as a punk rock group that is never afraid to voice out the generation’s political opinions and stand.

Green DayGreen Day is made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, and drummer John Kiffmeyer although he left the group before the second album could be released. His leaving has allowed Tre Cool to join the punk rock group. Sean Hughes was also, at one point, a part of the group. The early part of their career found them working with indpendent record labels, it was their 1994 album Dookie which was released with the help of the Reprise Records that actually brought them international recognition with the said album selling about 10 million copies in the US alone. Their success does not end there as the group was also able to take home a cumulative score of 5 Grammy Awards – one for their album, Dookie (Best Alternative Album); another one for American Idiot as the Best Rock Album; one for Boulevard of Broken Dreams as Record of the Year, a fourth one for 21st Century Break Down (another Best Rock Album); and the Best Musical Show Album for the American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording. What’s more, the stage adaptation of the American Idiot was able to land a Tony for Best Musical and Best Scenic Design, among others.

Not everything was roses in the land of Green Day, however. The punk rock band that popularized such hist as, “When September Ends” also had their share of decline in popularity. This took place during the early part of 2000 when they released the album, “Warning” to mixed to negative reviews. Although the song, “Warning”, was able find its way to the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the UK Top 40, it was only able to achieve certified gold. Keep in mind that their previous work were able to get double platinum certification.

With their success neatly tucked in their belt, Green Day would like to expand their bases and start touring Australia. The Grammy-winning punk group last visited the land Down Under last 2009 and are planning to go back 1st quarter of next year. Their plan is to play in both small venues as well as stadiums and arenas just what they did when they had their tour in 2005 and 2009. Most probably, songs from their three albums, Uno!, Dos!, and Tres!, would be played in the said events. Not many people may know it but some of the tracks on those three albums have already been played in smaller clubs just so the group has a feel of which songs are getting better feedback.

Make sure that you do not miss out on any Green Day concert when they perform in your area. Remember, you can always score some Green Day Tickets from Ticket Broker.
