Who doesn’t want to be “wasting away in Margaritaville?” Jimmy Buffett is the ultimate feel-good, summer-loving, good-time performer. At the age of 64, Jimmy Buffett is still touring and making all his fans feel like it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. Originally country singer in the late 1960s, Buffett ventured to Key West and ended up moving there he liked it so much. From there, he began to really hone his skills as a laid back; everyday is a vacation, type of performer. Buffett combined a variety of different music styles including: country, folk, pop, and vacation music.
During the 1980’s Buffett toured a lot and was a huge concert draw. However, as he has gotten older, he takes a more relaxed approach to pleasing his fans. He does about 20-30 tour dates and very rarely will play a show back to back.
Jimmy is also a great businessman. He has parlayed his songs and love for good times in restaurant ventures such as the Margaritaville Café and Cheeseburger Paradise. He also made a deal with Anheuser-Busch brewing company to produce his own beer entitled Land Shark Lager. (Very tasty if I do say so myself.) Also, Buffett has licensed Margaritaville Tequila, chips, salsa, and guacamole.
But most importantly, Jimmy is still known for the live shows he and his band the Coral Reefer Band put on. Most shows are made up of 26-30 songs and also include 2 encores. He splits the concert in half based on the mood and pace of the songs. In fact, he normally plays his slower songs during the second half of the concert, after a video for the fans is played during intermission. He truly is a fan favorite. All around the country people flock to his concerts year after year looking for a good time, good music, and some good beer. He has a style and an appeal all his own. He is definitely someone to see live and in concert!
