It was as if, whoever named Michael Bublé’s eighth studio album, knew that it was certainly going to be loved by the public. Ironically, this was the name given -”To Be Loved”- to the the Canadian singer-songwriter’s latest album which debuted at the number one spot of the Billboard 200 album chart. It beat out significantly popular albums such as Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 experience” and P!nk’s “The Truth About Love.” This is a considerably big feat, but not necessarily for the three-time Grammy-winning artist who already had three previous number one albums.
Containing a combination of four original songs and 10 standard cover versions, the album went out with 195,000 copies sold during the initial week of its release. Whereas, its closest competitor had at least a 100,000 gap in figures according to the released numbers by Nielsen Soundscan. Not even that long had passed since Michael Buble took the top spot in the same album chart. His previous release, “Christmas,” which was his seasonal record in 2011 containing the re-worked version of “White Christmas” was also a chart-topper. Presently, Michael Buble has reveled in his fourth consecutive number one album, a streak which stretches back to his albums “Crazy Love”(2009), and “Call Me Irresponsible”(2007). “To Be Loved” also topped UK charts upon its release in the area back in April 15.
During his early number one peak at the 200 billboard chart, Michael Buble and his eighth studio album was followed by “Side Effects of You.” This is the fourth album of R&B singer and former American Idol Fantasia which sold 91,000 copies, sharing the same release week as “To Be Loved.” The list went on with Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience, Phoenix’s “Bankrupt” and Fall Out Boy’s “Save Rock and Roll” completing the top five.
For his chart-topping 2013 album, Michael Buble planned to include more genuinely written original songs, with his soon-to-be-born son as an inspiration. He aims to dig deeper into uncharted territory while still being true to his personal and artistic roots. He hopes to accomplish this with his new album that takes inspiration from jazz music and the works of Motown and Bee Gees. He therefore brought in self-written tracks and collaborations with Reese Witherspoon and Bryan Adams saying he wanted his music to be soulful.
Michael Buble shares that writing the lead single of his album “It’s a Beautiful Day,” he took inspiration from the overwhelmingly positive response that he garnered from his previously released, original compositions “Haven’t Met You Yet,” and “Home.” Both of which were met with commercial and critical success. Still, he admits that he will always be committed in doing thoughtful covers of the classics that he loves. With a clever mix of originals and classics, “To Be Loved” has proven to be a great success. Bublé is currently scheduled for a tour, in support of his new album, which is set to start on June 30th.
