Catch Up with the Ongoing AMA Supercross Series

Are you interested with highly technical sports? Then Supercross would certainly be one of your favorites. This is largely similar to Motocross but with several significant differences. Generally, Supercross is more commercialized and is held within major cities across the globe. It is not as fast as Motocross but its tracks are more technical and the obstacles are more complicated. With that said, Supercross is considered an extreme or wild sport and that’s why it comes with high injury risk factors. Nevertheless, many motor racers are still thrilled to get into this kind of competition. Good thing that this sport is televised so that fans in the other sides of the globe get the chance to witness the action-pack competition on the tracks.

AMA SupercrossThe American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is the oldest and most prominent American cycle racing organization. It sanctions and governs modern Supercross races and then each year, awards three Supercross Championship winners – one each for the 450cc Class, 250cc West, and 250cc East categories. The AMA series starts by the last week of December and resumes until the second or third week of May. It is composed of 17 rounds for the 450cc Class rounds, 8 rounds for the 250cc West, and 8 rounds for the 250cc East. Each round has two heat races and a consolation race. There are 20 competing riders for every heat race (9 laps for the 450cc Class while 8 laps for the other two categories) and the top 9 of them will advance to the next round. The races are held in a temporary racing stadium and 14 other major venues in different parts of North America. These venues are structured similarly to that of short-track motor racing.

This year, the next races of the ongoing AMA Supercross series will be held in the following venues:

  • Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA (Feb. 1, 2014 at 6:30PM)
  • Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA (Feb. 8, 2014 at 7:00PM)
