When it comes to love songs, most particularly those that are oftentimes used in weddings, there are very few tracks that can actually come close to that of Jim Brickman’s “Valentine”. The song has been such a staple in most weddings, Valentines’ dinner, and just about any romantic dates that it can be very well hard to find someone who does not know the lyrics to, at least, its chorus. But who is the voice behind this soothing track?
Often referred to as the “Celine Dion of Country Music”, Martina McBride is primarily known for her ballads as well as for her soprano range. She started in the music industry in 1992 after having been signed by the RCA records the previous year. Her type of music can be likened to that of fellow country singers Shania Twain and Faith Hill – a crossover between pop style and country. She has produced a number of studio albums, and is set to release this coming October 22, 2012 a 40-song compilation album which she was able to work on while she was under RCA. The said album comes in two CDs and features a number of soothing duets such as “Still Holding On” which she recorded in collaboration with Clint Black, and “Chances Are” which she did with Bob Seger. Other collaborations included in the CD are “Trip Around the Sun”, “Feels Like Home”, and “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man”. She has also won a number of awards for her singing ability including Country Music Association Award for Female Vocalist of the Year (1999, 2004), Academy of Country Music Awards’ Top Female Vocalist for 2001 and 2002, and the American Music Awards’ Favorite Country Female Artist in 2003.
Martina McBride is also known for supporting a number of charitable institutions such as the Save Lids to Save Lives program. The said program is sponsored by General Mills and is aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer.
The release of the CD compilation is actually something that caught even the famed country music singer by surprise. This primarily stems from the fact that her old recording label did not give her a head’s up about the launch of the said album. Fans need not worry about this, however, as McBride does not have any problem with it and is actually curious herself how the album cover would look like. Fans who cannot wait for McBride to perform in their area can actually head to Amazon and get their own copy of the said compilation.
McBride is now signed under the the Republic Nashville label. She had resumed her US tour last September 28 with a performance at the Ryman Auditorium located in Nashville. Once her One Night Tour ends, which would be by November 8, she would start her Joys of Christmas tour. The coming year, 2013, is also expected to be busy one for this country music singer as she would be working with George Strait on his final tour entitled, “Cowboy Rides Away”.
