Texas Rangers Looking Like Legit Contenders So Far This Season

For the past two seasons, Texas Rangers has made it all the way to the World Series but in both times came away empty for their first World Series title. In 2010, Texas lost to the San Francisco Giants 4-1 and last season, they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-4. Last year’s loss was perhaps the most painful one for the franchise especially since they had two chances of closing out the series but failed both times. In Game 6, they were leading 7-5 in the bottom 9thand were headed for the championship but miscues allowed St. Louis to force extra innings, and eventually the win. Despite the two consecutive failure in the World Series, owner of Texas Ranger tickets are still showing all out support for their team.

During the current season, Texas has shown the entire league that they are capable of getting to the World Series for the third straight time. Through 68 games, Texas is 41-27 and leads the Western Division of the American League. They are currently behind New York Yankees (41-25) in the American League standings, who are having a 10 game winning streak. The Rangers, on the other hand, have their own winning streak as well at 4 games.

Texas is definitely playing great baseball this season. The early success of the Rangers this season is not just about individual plays but it is more of a team effort. At present, Texas leads the entire league in various statistical categories, which shows how the team is playing right now. They are number one in Runs, Hits, Runs Batted In, Batting Average, On Base Percentage, and Slugging Percentage. Texas is also quite good in the pitching categories placing 2nd in Walks Plus Hits Per Inning Pitched, 4th in Opponents’ Batting Average, 5th in Shutouts, 5th in Innings Pitched, 7th in Earned Run Average, and 8thin Quality Starts.

The great team play is definitely a result of the outstanding individual plays of Rangers players. Outfielder Josh Hamilton is 1st in Slugging Percentage and 9th in Batting Average. Pitcher Colby Lewis is 9th in Walks Plus Hits Per Inning Pitched.

Another player who is having a really good season for the Rangers is rookie pitcher Yu Darvish, who is among the AL Rookie of the Year candidates. The 25-year-old Japanese rookie is having a remarkable season. He is 9th among pitchers for the most strikeouts so far this season with 96 and has already collected 9 wins on top of 4 losses. In terms of other statistical categories, Darvish has a 1.43 WHIP, 88.2 Innings Pitched, 78 Hits, 38 Runs, and 34 Earned Runs. Prior to debuting in MLB, Darvish was first a star player in his home country of Japan. Last year, he was the highest paid Japanese baseball player.

As the season progresses, Texas is slowly becoming the best team in the entire Major League Baseball. With a combination of solid team play plus great individual performances, it might be too early to tell but they are definitely legit contenders.
