The '''Houston Texans''' are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. They are currently members of the Southern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Texans joined the NFL as a 2002 expansion team, and to date have been the worst expansion franchise in NFL history. The city's previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997, changing their name to the Tennessee Titans in 1999.
According to Forbes Magazine, the Texans are the sixth most valuable football franchise in the United States, valued at approximately $1.125 billion.
