Boston Celtics Look to Continue Winning Tear Despite Trade Rumors

Owners of Boston Celticstickets now hope that the current run of their team will continue as the second half of the season progresses. Boston lost seven of their last eight assignments upon entering All-Star break lowlighted by a five game losing skid. After the midseason festivities, the Celtics looked rejuvenated and has won their first four games of the second half. Falling two games below .500 for the first time since the Paul Pierce-Ray Allen-Kevin Garnett-Rajon Rondo era, the winning streak helped the team get back in .500 and placed them on the seventh seed.

The Celtics’ winning streak started with a road win against Cleveland Cavaliers and then followed by home wins over Milwaukee Bucks, New Jersey Nets, and most recently over the rival New York Knicks, to the delight of Boston Celtics tickets owners.

All-star Rajon Rondo has been on a tear during this winning streak averaging 16 points, 13.5 assists, 8.25 rebounds, and 1.75 steals. He also had two triple-doubles in that span highlighted by a ridiculous performance against the Knicks. The 26-year-old all-star tallied 18 points, 20 assists, and 17 rebounds during that overtime win. His performance in that game made him just the 3rd player in NBA history to record at least 15 points, 20 assists and 15 rebounds in a single game. He joins Wilt Chamberlain (1968) and Oscar Robertson (1961) as the only players to achieve such feat. His triple-double also allows him to join Jason Kidd and Magic Johnson as the only point guards to tally at least 15 points, rebounds and assists in the last 25 seasons.

Speaking of Rondo, he’s been in several trade rumors swirling around the league. According to several articles, Bostonis looking to unload Rondo to get some good young players in return. Since Pierce, Garnett, and Allen are in the twilight of their careers, the Celtics would likely not get any young player in exchange of them which is why Rondo has been target of the constant rumors. Though Danny Ainge, President of the Basketball Operations, has said he is not actively trying to trade Rondo, coach Doc Rivers still got irked about the reports. Rivers pointed that his relationship with Rondo has been cited as one of the reasons why the team is looking to move his point guard. The former Coach of the Year reiterated that his relationship with Rondo “is as strong as ever.” With the recent play of Rondo, it seems that his trade value is getting higher and the rumors would likely to continue until after March 15.

It is an open secret that the Celtics needs young players to compensate the possible departure of Garnett and Allen as well as the age of their core players. If they are not able to go deep into the playoffs this season, roster moves would surely be made in the offseason.

Despite all the rumors involving Celtics players, especially Rondo, the team’s winning streak shows that they are not affected by it. With the championship window slowly closing on the Celtics, now is the time to trump all of those rumors and focus on the task ahead and that is to win another title since 2008.
