Before it was a turf toe, now it is back spasms that is hounding the reigning Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose. Rose admitted that he’s been bothered by this back issue for several weeks and that led him to decide to seek for additional treatment options. The 23-year-old Rose told that back problems started hounding him during the first game of their nine-game road trip in Miami on January 29. He also said that he has not experienced this kind of problem since he was a high school player for Simeon Career Academy. Rose already missed five games due to the turf toe injury in January and has missed the past two games due to back problems. The three-time all-star said that his return is quite uncertain and when he does return to the lineup, he wants to be pain free.
During the road trip of the reigning Central Division champs, the injury of Rose got worse every game which led to him having a hard time walking without pain. He is continuously getting stim treatment and the Bulls management is carefully determining what the real problem is with their star player. Rose is averaging 22 points, 7.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds through 23 games played.
Injuries to key players have never been new for the Bullsthis season. Starting shooting guard Richard Hamilton has missed all but 11 games due to groin and thigh injuries. The 33-year-old former first round pick last played in the loss to the Miami Heat and is currently averaging 14.2 points 3.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game.
According to Bulls coach and reigning Coach of the Year Tom Thibodeau, the former all-star might not play for at least another week or until after the All-Star break to rest their marquee offseason acquisition. Thibodeau told that they want the 13-year veteran to get the all the rest he needs to be completely healthy for the second half of the season which is very critical for every playoff team. Chicago currently leads the Eastern Conference as well as the league with a 23-7 record. The Bulls want to hold on to the top spot in the entire league to get home court advantage throughout the playoffs. They lead Oklahoma City Thunder (21-6) by only a ½ game.
Other Bulls players who already missed a number of games due to injury were Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, C.J. Watson, and John Lucas III.
Despite all the injuries to the Bulls, the owners of Chicago Bulls tickets has not failed to show their support to the team who are in contention for a title.
Three Bulls in Orlando?
If the Bulls maintain the top spot in the East until Wednesday, February 15, Thibodeau would be selected to coach the Eastern squad which would be the first time in his career. He would join Rose and Deng as Bulls representatives in Orlando. Rose was selected as an all-star starter while Deng was voted in as a reserve, his first selection. Bulls are 1 ½ games ahead of Miami Heat for the best record in the East.
