Chicago Bulls’ Deng to Miss Games Due to Torn Ligament on Left Wrist

Owners of Chicago Bulls tickets would have to get used seeing their small forward in suit rather than on his Bulls jersey.

NBA-leading Chicago Bullswould miss the services of their small forward Luol Deng for quite some time after the 26-year-old Sudanese player suffered a torn ligament in his left wrist. The eighth-year veteran suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of their win against the Charlotte Bobcats on January 21. According to Coach Tom Thobodeau, surgery is an option but nothing has been planned about it. The reigning Coach of the Year also said that the timetable for Deng’s return is still unknown.

His torn ligament on the wrist was the same injury that he had in his rookie year. The only difference is that he suffered it on his right wrist. That time, Deng opted for a season-ending surgery. Deng’s refusal for surgery is because he believes that the Bulls “have a very good chance of doing something special.”

This latest injury has already cost Deng one game missing their game against the New Jersey Nets on January 23. For the season, Deng is averaging 15.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists a game.

The injury to Deng will create some playing time for other Bulls players. Chicago still has Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver, Brian Scalabrine, and Jimmy Butler who can fill in the void caused by the injury to Deng.

Deng was a first round pick back in 2004 by the Phoenix Suns before being traded to the Bulls on Draft day. In his entire career with the Bulls, Deng has averaged 16 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per outing.

Injury bug has certainly hit Chicago this season. Reigning MVP Derrick Rose has already missed four games due to a turf toe, an injury that he will be dealing for the rest of the season. Starting center Joakim Noah already missed a game due to an ankle injury while backup forward Taj Gibson missed the Bulls’ past two games also due to an ankle injury. Backup guard John Lucas III also missed the past two games because of a groin injury.

With depth from top to bottom on their roster, Chicago is looking to maintain their position at the top of the standings. Despite all of the injuries to key players, the Bulls have been winning to the delight of the owners of Chicago Bulls tickets. Ever since Rose re-aggravated his turf toe injury on January 10 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Bulls is 8-1.

Through 15 games in January, the Bulls is 13-2 and is on a four-game winning streak. They still have four remaining games for the month with a big one on the road. Chicago will go up against the reigning Eastern Conference Champions the Miami Heat on January 29. Miami was the team that eliminated the Bulls in last year’s conference championship. Other games of Chicago include at home versus Indiana (January 25), at home versus Milwaukee Bucks (January 27), and on the road versus Washington Wizards (January 30).
