Before the 2010-2011 NBA season, the Dallas Mavericks’ biggest accomplishment was reaching the NBA Finals in 2006. In that epic series, Dallas was up 2-0 over the Miami Heat but the boys from Florida came back and won the next four games clinching the title in Dallas’ home floor. Since that collapse, Dallas was able to get past the first round only once until last year’s playoffs. During the 2011 playoffs, former league MVP Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas to the promise land and finally got the title that has eluded him and his teammates since they entered the league. With the current success of their team, owners of 2011-2012 Dallas Mavericks tickets have been waiting for the season to get started and support for another run at the title.
Throughout last year’s playoffs, Dallas played the underdog role. Despite being a higher seed against Portland Trail Blazers, basketball analysts predicted that Dallas would be eliminated by this young, athletic team. Dallas proved the doubters wrong by eliminating Portland in six hard-fought games. Their next opponent was the reigning champions, the Los Angeles Lakers. Nowitzki and Dallas made easy work of the champs by sweeping their playoff series. Many considered it as shocker and Dallas showed once again that they have something special in them.
Going up against the rising Oklahoma City Thunder weren’t a problem either for the veteran-laden team. Dallas finished OKC in five games and moved on to face Miami for a title rematch. The Mavericks showed great resolve during the NBA Finals and avenged their defeat in 2006. Nowitzki & Co. played a complete team game throughout the series en route to their first title. From all the players and the staff of Dallas, only coach Rick Carlisle has previously won a championship.
Having won the title for the first time in 30 seasons, owners of Dallas Mavericks tickets can’t wait to see their team raise their first championship in the rafters of American Airlines Center. The raising of the banner would have been done on their season opener against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls, but with the pending lockout, December is the most feasible time for the banner-raising moment. Lockout has deprived the ticket-paying fans of Dallas to see their champions defend their title.

NBA players are not the only one that wants the league back. The fans have also been waiting for the season to get going. After a successful season, the Dallas fans are more than willing to show their support behind their team. They know that the window for another title is closing especially with current makeup of their team that is full of veterans. With nine players from their championship roster over 30 years old, this delay in games does not help.
In the recent developments of the ongoing labor negotiations, a new offer has been presented to the player union and a decision must be made by November 14. The union rejected these offer and the season is in real jeopardy after that. The player union is also reported to decertify themselves and file a lawsuit against the NBA.
