The 2012 NBA Playoffs officially begins on April 28 with four matchups. One of those matchups to tip off the postseason is between rivals New York Knicksand Miami Heat. Though New York and Miami never had a playoff matchup for almost a decade already, basketball fanatics still remember the intense battles in the late 1990’s. Owners of New York Knicks tickets would be once again reminded of the battles from the past with this matchup.
New Yorkvs. Miami does not lack any star power as well as firepower. One example is that between the two teams, they have four of the top five picks from the heralded 2003 draft. LeBron James. Carmelo Anthony. Chris Bosh. Dwyane Wade. Those four names can certainly bring a lot of tickets, evidenced by their successes before. With those four in this series alone, expect a First round series like never before. Adding to the star power and firepower of the series is the fact that three games would be played in the Mecca of basketball.
New York all-star Amare Stoudemire may have predicted at the start of the season their series with Miami. Five months ago, Stoudemire reportedly made a joke to a rookie teammate declaring that they would go big game hunting in South Florida. This declaration happened inside the New York locker room after a preseason game. Stoudemire was quoted saying: “You know what we’re going to hunt down there, right? We’re going to hunt LeBron and D-Wade.” Even though Stoudemire reiterated that it was part of a private conversation but he didn’t back away from two things.
Stoudemire, a 29-year-old all-star forward, said that New York only has one target as the team to beat in the Eastern Conference and that is the Heat. He also said that the star power as well as talent of their team can compete with the superstar trio of Miami.
Even though Miami swept them during their season matchups, Stoudemire believes that they have a great chance of upsetting the Heat. He said that they have the people who can matchup very well with Wade, James, and Bosh. Stoudemire also mentioned that their bench is better than Miami.
Aside from their bench depth, there is another element that New York can have a good feeling about their chances and that is three-point shooting. Miami allows the seventh worst three-point shooting percentage in the entire league, which is a good sign for New York. Even though they also allow a very high percentage in that department, they are still capable of wreaking havoc from beyond the arc. Anthony, J.R. Smith, and Steve Novak are all capable of lighting it up from the distance at any given day.
New York could be depleted in Game 1 since starting center Tyson Chandler is currently battling flu. Knicks coach Mike Woodson told that there is “strong possibility” that the Defensive Player of the Year candidate would miss the first game. Jared Jeffries could start in place of Chandler.
