If you are a boxing aficionado, you would most likely be aware that the most popular and hard-to-beat boxer of the modern world is Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines. Not only has he successfully given the audience the thrill that they have wanted, he has also successfully defended a number of world titles. To date, he is the only boxer to have world titles in eight different divisions. This is on top of the fact that he was the first to win the Lineal Championship in four different classes. His popularity is so much so that people from all over the world would have probably heard about him. Aside from his boxing career, he is also considered a TV personality in the Philippines and is a congressman of the province of Saranggani. The many titles that his adulating fans as well as boxing professionals have given him in recognition of his ability include “best pound for pound boxer”, and “Fighter of the Decade (2000s)”.
Now, unless you are from Mexico, you would have probably very little information about who Juan Manuel Marquez is saved for the fact that he had fought Manny Pacquiao three times. Well, let us introduce you to Juan Manuel Marquez.
Juan Manuel Marquez happens to be the brother of Rafael Marquez who also happens to be a former world champion in the bantamweight and super bantamweight division. Juan Manuel Marquez currently holds the title of WBO light welterweight champion. He is also currently considered as the sixth pound for pound boxer with Pacquiao topping the list. Just like Pacquiao, Marquez also has his own list of achievements that he is proud of. This would include the fact that he is the third Mexican to have secured a world title in four divisions. He also has seven world titles which he received while fighting in four different boxing weight classes.
This coming December 2012, the two legends would be at it again, giving the fans the fight that they have always longed for – excitement and that feeling of not knowing which side will take home the bacon, so to speak. Of course, both parties are also out to get each other’s blood since there really has been no concrete proof that one is better than the other, what with the first fight resulting in drawing, the second fight leading to a split decision, and the third fight being decided in favor of Pacquiao although many sports aficionados are pointing to Marquez as the real winner. The said fight would be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as opposed to Marquez’s condition that the fourth fight be held in his hometown. Hopefully, however, this fourth installment to the Pacquia-Marquez saga would settle once and for all who is the better boxer between the two. A concrete decision on this face-off would definitely silence any qualms people might have about Pacquiao’s last two wins and would give Marquez whatever peace of mind he is longing for when it comes to his stature as a boxer.
