American football, or simply football, is considered to be one of the most popular sports in the US. If there are hundreds who really wish they could play as a professional football player, there are also hundreds who would really want to see their favorite team in live action. When it comes to football, one of the most sought-after teams is the Houston Texans.
The fame that the Houston Texans are currently enjoying is something that is with solid basis. Established in 2002, the team is under the South Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) under the National Football League. Its majority owner is Bob McNair. The team came to join the NFL after the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee and became known as the Tennessee Titans. The team first came under the spotlight when they won the AFC South championships. This was followed by another win the following year.
Not everything, however, is fine and dandy with the Texans. During the 2011 season, the team had a win-loss record of 68-95. Some of their most notable games of all time, however, is against such teams as the Indianapolis Colt, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, and the San Diego Chargers, among others.
With the playoffs just a few days from now, it is no surprise that fans are already gearing up to seeing their favorite team in action. Even Texans coach Gary Kubiak is making sure that his team is up to the task of securing again another South championship. However, instead of pushing them to become highly competitive that they start second guessing their every move, Kubiak is challenging his team to cut it loose and play with reckless abandon. Kubiak is focusing more on making sure that his team is now afraid of taking risks even if there is a possibility that they could make a mistake. This strategy has actually a positive effect on the confidence of the players. Far from resulting in a disorganized effort and second guesses, this method seems to go well with the Texans as evidenced by their fete last year.
Kubiak took over the role of team coach in 2006, succeeding Dom Capers in the process who handled the team from 2001 until 2006. During Capers’ term, the Houston Texans were able to secure 18 wins against 46 losses. When Kubiak took over, the team was able to secure two division championships as well as score 61 wins against 54 losses.
Some of the most notable players of the team include QB Matt Schaub, running backs James Casey and Tyler Cutts, and defensive backs Alan Ball, Quintin Demps, and Shiloh Keo, among others.
As much as the team is known for their successful plays, they are also known for a number of traditions such as the Battle Red Day and Bull Pen.
