New Jersey Devils
Remember that Seinfeld episode where Elaine’s boyfriend, David Puddy, paints his face red to show his support for the New Jersey Devils? Well, such superfandom probably wasn’t the PR this franchise was looking for, but it does show the devotion this team inspires in its fans. Originally based in Kansas City and then Denver, the team was moved to Newark in 1982 and dubbed the Devils after the mythical Jersey Devil. With captain Scott Stevens, the team won their first Stanley Cup in 1994-95, and followed that up with 1999-00 and 2002-03 wins. Until 2010, they’d also been one of the most consistent teams, making the playoffs every year since the 1995-96 season. Will the 2011-12 season bode better for the Devils? The David Puddy’s of the world sure hope so.
